- Daniel O'Connell, often referred to as The Liberator or The Emancipator, was an Irish political leader in the first half of the 19th century.

- Died: May 15, 1847, Genoa, Italy
- Was a lawyer but then said became a nationalist leader
- Founded Catholic association to go against the Irish government
- With the backing of the clergy O'Connell stood for election to the English parliament in County Clare in 1828
- Supported United Irishmen, but did not want separatist violence
- In 1802 O'Connell married his cousin Mary. The marriage was a good one with 12 children being born, although only 7 survived.
